Months in the making, the series is a celebration of materials and process.
"Watts plucks the self-possessed subjects of her Wallflowers Series from their wallpapered surroundings and places them on timber. Stripped of graphic patterning, these backdrops cleverly reveal what one might expect to find under peeled back wallpaper: woodgrain. More than a crafty visual technique, however, the artist's decision to leave her canvases exposed is highly conceptual, revealing a desire to bring her practice down to earth".
